Install

Ensō runs everywhere from one account. Install it on as many devices as you like — they all stay in sync, and each one works fully offline.

Web

Open app.ensoapp.io in any modern browser and log in. The web app keeps a full local copy of your data in the browser, so it keeps working when you lose your connection — you can read and edit everything, and changes sync when you’re back online.

Tip

On a phone or tablet, install the native app from the App Store or Google Play rather than using the browser. On a desktop browser you can keep the tab pinned or bookmarked, or install the desktop app below.

Windows

There are two ways to install on Windows.

From the Microsoft Store — open the Ensō listing and click Get. No SmartScreen prompt, and Windows keeps it up to date for you.

From the installer:

1. Go to ensoapp.io/download and click Download for Windows.
2. Run the downloaded installer. It installs per-user, so no administrator prompt is needed.
3. Launch Ensō and log in.

Note

“Windows protected your PC” — the installer isn’t yet code-signed with a paid certificate, so SmartScreen shows a warning on first install. Click More info, then Run anyway. You only see this on the manual install; updates afterwards are delivered in-app with their own signature check. The Microsoft Store version shows no warning.

macOS

One download covers both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

1. Go to ensoapp.io/download and click Download for macOS.
2. Open the disk image and drag Ensō to Applications.
3. Launch Ensō from Applications and log in.

Caution

Run Ensō from your Applications folder, not straight from the mounted disk image. The disk image is read-only, so an app launched from it can’t install updates.

iPhone and iPad

One universal app covers both.

1. Open Ensō: Tasks & Notes on the App Store and tap Get.
2. Launch Ensō and log in.

Android

1. Open Ensō: Todo, Notes & Calendar on Google Play and tap Install.
2. Launch Ensō and log in.

Prefer the web app?

You can still run Ensō from the browser on a phone: open app.ensoapp.io, then Add to Home Screen (the Share menu on iPhone, the browser menu on Android) for a full-screen, offline-capable app without an install.

Each Ensō keeps its own local database — the native app’s is separate from the browser’s, just as a Home Screen app’s is separate from the Safari tab’s. That is by design, and sync is what keeps them in step: work in whichever one you like and your devices converge within seconds.

Chrome extension

Ensō Reading saves the page you’re on — with a full offline copy — straight to your reading list. Install it from the Chrome Web Store in Chrome, Edge, Brave, or any Chromium browser (Chrome 116 or newer), then pin the Ensō button. Updates

Desktop (Windows and macOS): the app checks for a new version every time it launches. When one is available, a button appears at the bottom of the left rail: Update to vX.Y.Z — restart. Click it and Ensō downloads the update, verifies its signature, installs it, and relaunches. There’s nothing else to do — you never need to re-download the installer.

Microsoft Store (Windows): the Store delivers updates, so there is no in-app update button on that install.

iPhone, iPad, and Android: updates come from the App Store and Google Play like any other app — automatically, unless you have turned automatic updates off.

Web: there is no update button. The web app is updated on the server, and you get the latest version the next time the app loads. If a Home Screen app seems stale, close it fully and reopen it.

Chrome extension: the Web Store version updates itself. An unpacked install doesn’t — click Reload on its card in chrome://extensions after an Ensō update.

The version you’re running is shown at the bottom of Settings (the “Ensō vX.Y.Z” line).
